Top 5 Austin Pet Rescue Pioneers of 2011

A Variety Of Pets Media based in Austin, Texas is comprised of radio shows and documentary videos highlighting heroes and pioneers. These individuals share their lives with two or more pets. The radio show portion has been featured in three magazines in two years and received an award in 2010.

Animal Trustees of Austin offers two clinics within one small building while Ferret Waystation, Austin Guinea Pig Rescue, and House Rabbit Resource Network focus on caring as well as adopting small furry family members. These are just a few of the numerous organizations around Austin.

#4   Staff members of non-profit organizations shared their dreams to directors and board members knowing pets would be saved and adopted. Sheltered dogs are trained and cared for by inmates at Kyle Correctional Center thanks to PAWS Shelter and Humane Society’s Cell Dog Program

#2   Adoption counselors are the first to speak to potential adopters and review applications. When dealing with a foster home based rescue group be prepared for home visits and reference checks. They have invested time and money for pets to being enjoying a life of comfort. The adoption process does take time to verify pets are matched with the appropriate individual or family. From The Heart Rescue and Blue Dog Rescue are just a couple of non-profit groups with admirable counselors. 

#1   Volunteers for their endless efforts in overseeing and creating events or programs uniting sheltered pets with their new life long partners. Austin Animal Center offers Desperate Housecats, an adoption event held on the third weekend of each month, while the Hard Luck Hounds is a daily adoption endeavor. 

It takes a team to oversee new programs and events. The pioneers mentioned in this article are but a few of the hundreds continually making a difference for pets within our communities. Radio For Rescue

Stories of Multiple Pets is hosting a contest to benefit Austin Avian Rescue and Rehabilitation, Ferret Waystation, Street Cat Rescue and Vision Hills Sanctuary. This live show will kick off the contest by introducing the founders and reviewing the guidelines. The contest begins on August 7th through November 1st.

Austin, TX (July 30, 2010): Within this pet friendly city there are four nonprofit animal organizations operated by a sole individual. Each organization has a few volunteers with numerous pets to feed, socialize, clean and love. Three of the four individuals are fulltime employees. Their spare time is devoted to numerous pets.

The ‘Radio for Rescue’ project will acknowledge Good Samaritans who are able to correctly answer several trivia questions, volunteer for 8 hours, raise funds and fulfill a nonprofit’s wish list. Jerry Nolan oversees Austin Avian Rescue and Rehabilitation currently located in south Austin. Their focus is on “Giving Rescued Birds a Second Chance”. This organization is eager to educate the public on caring for these special creatures whose life span will easily exceed their first guardian.

Connie Gabby provides rehabilitation, health care, and locates forever homes for unwanted or abandoned ferrets. Ferret Waystation located south of Austin is a home based no kill ferret shelter. She is also active in educating the public about ferret care and the responsibilities that come with their companionship in the home.

Donna Powell founder of Street Cat Rescue is located in Round Rock. Her program provides a humane solution for the community cats of the Austin area. She educates the public on Trap/Neuter/Return (TNR) programs for feral cats and adopts out socialized cats.

Kim Meyer is the director of Vision Hills Sanctuary also located in Round Rock. The sanctuary cares for a variety of pets. During this contest the focus will be on the smaller pets such as gerbils, hamsters and guinea pigs. Many individuals are unaware of her rescue or efforts to match these small pets with loving forever homes.

Glo the executive producer and host of ‘A Variety Of Pets’ radio show realized the need to assist these organizations. The project begins August 7th with a kickoff event at Plucker’s in Round Rock where a live radio show will be aired from 7 – 8 pm. Individuals, families or teams can receive FAME for assisting one of the four organizations. The project ends on February 1, 2011.

Radio For Rescue project begins Aug 7th

Radio for Rescue is hosted by Stories Of Multiple Pets. The focus is building awareness through education, volunteering, raising funds and having fun with numerous pets associated with the following four nonprofit animal organizations:
• Austin Avian Rescue and Rehabilitation
• Ferret Waystation
• Street Cat Rescue
• Vision Hills Sanctuary

The project begins on Saturday, August 7th and ends on February 1, 2011.

Participates can be an adult, a family or a team (3 – 5 individuals). Individuals under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian (with written approval).

Focus:
A. Complete an interest form. This form will be reviewed by the owners/founders of one of the nonprofit animal organizations. If accepted, you’ll move to the next step.
B. Complete a volunteer form to be reviewed by the owners/founders. If accepted, you’ll progress forward in the contest.
C. Trivia questionnaire
D. Complete 8 hours of volunteering. The dates and time frames must be scheduled with the nonprofit’s owner/founder. Various tasks will be given to you when the schedule dates are confirmed. Pictures and videos will be completed during this portion of the contest. You must give permission to post your name and pictures on various media sources.
E. Establish your own fund raising events. (locate a matching fund raising ).
F. Collect and donate as many items from organization’s wish list. A date and time must be scheduled to deliver items. A detailed list indicating each item must be submitted on the scheduled delivery date.

As a participate, your name or team name will be announced and printed through various media. All levels must be completed by midnight on Febraury 1, 2011. You will receive recognition (FAME) for your efforts in supporting a nonprofit organization via various media sources.

The objective is to have FUN socializing animals, learning how to care for animals and raise awareness of these nonprofit groups.
